NetPulse will be posting a weekly blog on web development news, tips and tricks that we find interesting, useful, or really cool. We will share with you news articles from the web and our thoughts, some code examples, some tricks we have come across to make web development so much fun and sometimes so frustrating.
There have been some rumors that two of the giants on the web, YouTube.com and google.com (Google Agrees: IE6 Must Die) will stop supporting IE6. (YouTube to Drop Support For IE6 Starting Next Month)
So why is this big news? Well because as the big sites stop supporting IE6 users will start to wise up and upgrade their browsers thus letting web developers do more things. http://ie6update.com/ is a site that has some javascript you can download from their site and include into your site which will detect if the user is using IE6 and let them know they need to upgrade in order to see the site.
Other reasons why IE6 must go away:
- Does not support transparent PNGs
- CSS Float + Margin / Padding Issues
- Lack of CSS Pseudo-Class & Pseudo-Element Support
- No Min-Height CSS Support
I know me writing this is not going to change anything and those who read this will all nod their heads in agreement. If you know anyone who does use it, just ask them if they still use a 14.4 dial up modem to connect to the internet?
